The mirror you have been avoiding

You wrote the book. The phone did not ring.

It is on Amazon with a good cover and a foreword from someone respected. Eighteen months on, it has produced polite compliments, a few podcast invitations, and no contracts.

Someone tells you at a conference that they loved it. You smile and say thank you, and on the drive home you do the math on the year and what the book cost to publish.

So you go back to the other things. It is late and you are on LinkedIn, rewriting the same message to a VP at the company you know you could transform. Message number forty-something. Read receipt, no reply. The most experienced person in the field, being ignored by someone who would be lucky to have you.

Then last quarter you sponsored another conference, stood at the booth, and collected cards that went nowhere. A competitor with half your expertise walked out with a Fortune 500 client because he golfs with the CEO.

You are excellent at the work and invisible to the exact people who could write you a six-figure check.

The diagnosis

Every fix you tried pulled the same lever

You have either thrown real money at this, or run on referrals and hoping. Both roads end in the same place, and that is not a coincidence.

  • Referrals and waiting to be introducedA referral travels only as far as the person giving it. Your referrer knows who they know, and few of them sit at the top of a Fortune 1000 organization or run a national association. The pipeline is capped by someone else's address book and it moves on someone else's timeline.
  • Cold LinkedIn outreachEvery message asks a stranger to interpret your claim, translate it into their world, and hand over their calendar. That is three favors from someone who owes you nothing, which is why it gets ignored or forwarded to procurement.
  • The book about your expertiseThis is the one that stings. Your execution was right and your value was clear. The subject was the problem. People act on self-interest, and the book is about you, so the executive it was written for has no personal reason to open it.
  • Marketing coaches and lead-gen agencies$2,000 to $5,000 a month buys advice and clicks. It does not buy access. The engagement ends with a better funnel and the same calendar.
  • Conferences, booths, and sponsorships$5,000 to $25,000 a shot to stand in a crowd of vendors and hope the right person walks past the table. Expensive visibility with no line to the decision-maker.
  • The business development hire$80,000 to $150,000 in salary, plus 6 months of your hours training and managing them. Then the slow realization, then the firing. Add the salary, your time, the year of momentum, and the relationships nobody started while you were teaching someone else to start them.

Each one is a single lever pulled on its own. Better outreach. A better book. A better hire. In every case the request was identical: give me your attention, from someone who had been given no reason to give it.

The structure underneath never changed. That is why none of it held.

Nobody trains experts to be the ones they chase. You were taught to be excellent at the work, then told to network more and write a book. You did what the people you were supposed to trust told you to do.

You are invited

The Retained Advisor

A live 2-day virtual event for established business authors, consultants, and advisors who are done pitching organizations that never write back.

Over two sessions you will see why the obvious fixes push the right people further away, and you will be walked through the Reverse Spotlight Method, the system behind advisors who get chosen instead of pitching.

October 19 and 20 · 1:00pm to 2:30pm ET · $7

What the two days cover

Day one is the diagnosis. Day two is the system.

Day 1

Why the obvious fixes push the right people away

  • The five-part self-score that shows where your access actually stands, and what moves it
  • Why every conventional fix for landing large clients works against you at this level
  • The one flip that changed everything, and the client engagement where it first showed up
  • What one relationship with a national association or a Fortune 1000 organization is worth against a year of referrals, run on your own numbers
  • The five ingredients of the Reverse Spotlight Method, named in full

Why this matters: once you see what the real constraint is, you can stop working harder on the wrong problem.

Day 2

The whole system, in the order that makes it work

  • Three client stories, including the two-thousand-dollar coach who got the call from an organization with a million members
  • All five parts taught in sequence, with what each one costs you to skip
  • How to choose the small number of organizations worth pursuing, and the person inside who can say yes
  • Why the delivery step is the most skipped part of this field, and what happens to good work without it
  • What has to happen in the weeks after, so one profile becomes a relationship instead of a compliment

Why this matters: you leave knowing which organization is worth your first campaign and what the path to it looks like.

The mechanism

The Reverse Spotlight Method

Stop asking for attention. Start giving attention instead. 5 steps, and they only work in order.

  1. The Target MapThe small number of organizations worth going after, and the exact person inside each one who can say yes. A company has never signed a contract. A person did.
  2. The Reverse SpotlightThe assets we develop and publish, and who they are about. Their innovation, their market position, their leadership, profiled the way an outside analyst would. This is the flip.
  3. The Authority Asset StackWhat turns a document into third-party credibility, so you arrive as a peer analyst rather than a vendor with a brochure.
  4. The DeliveryHow the work physically reaches the one person who matters. The most-skipped part of this field, and the reason good work dies in an inbox.
  5. The Relationship EngineWhat happens in the weeks after, which turns one profile into inbound conversations, introductions, and reach you did not pay for.

Each piece is worth something only because of the one before it. That is why nobody has ever done this by accident.

Who this room is for

Built for a specific person. If that is not you, please keep your money.

Come if you are

  • An established consultant, advisor, or founder-led firm already doing real revenue
  • Selling a proven B2B consulting, training, or advisory offer you can deliver to a large organization
  • Comfortable sitting across from a C-suite executive as a peer
  • Carrying deep expertise and a track record, with growth that still depends on you chasing the work

Skip this if you are

  • A brand-new business still landing your first clients
  • Without a proven offer a large organization could buy
  • Looking to write a memoir or a book about your own brilliance
  • After a hack rather than a relationship

Your host

Doug Crowe

Founder of Authority Fusion and Your Quantum Brand.

Doug spent years as a ghostwriter and publisher, helping experts turn what they know into books. He watched the same thing happen over and over. Someone would finish a beautiful book about themselves, then sit down and wait for the phone to ring.

Doug has developed enterprise-level relationships organically for over 3 decades, working the same idea from different angles the whole time. LinkedIn. Direct outreach. What he calls anti-content marketing. One moment sharpened all of it. A client stopped writing about himself and profiled the company he most wanted to work with instead, documented their innovation at the level they would expect from McKinsey, and put it on the decision-maker's desk. Seventy-two hours later that executive called him, not to be pitched, but to ask who he was and how he knew their work so well.

After years of dancing around the edges of that idea, the Reverse Spotlight Method was polished, optimized and refined into a concierge service built to fuel relationships with Fortune 1000 companies and associations. Every program is customized to the individual business author or consultant, and these two days are where the method itself gets taught.

We published a white paper for her profiling a veterans organization with 1,000,000 members. The executive director called her. She was booked to run a workshop and keynote their national conference, and she never approached them.

“I had a meeting with the folks from a national veteran organization with over 1,000,000 members. They instantly invited me to present a workshop this fall and doing a keynote for their national conference.”Veronica Deraleau

Questions people ask before they register

I do not know which organization I would target first.
Good. Choosing it is the highest-leverage decision in the whole method, and day two is built around how that choice gets made. Arriving without the answer is the reason to come.
My field is too specialized for this to work.
One of the clients you will hear about sells software for digital displays. The more specialized you are, the more powerful the profile becomes, because almost nobody has done serious thinking in your corner.
I already tried reaching these companies and it went nowhere.
What you tried was asking for their attention. The two days are about the opposite motion, which is why it works where the other thing failed. The silence that came back was a verdict on the approach, not on you or the value you were shouting about.
I do not have time to write a white paper. I am running a business.
The event is two live sessions and nothing else. If you later choose to work with Doug's team, the research comes out of one conversation with you and the team builds the rest.
I have spent real money on this before with a publisher or an agency, and it did not deliver.
Then you have earned the right to be careful. Come to the two days, watch how the method is put together, and ask exactly what happens, in what order, and who does it. If the answers do not satisfy you, do nothing.
Will there be a replay?
Replays are available through Sunday, October 25. The self-score and the arithmetic are live, so the sessions are built to be attended.
Is anything sold at the event?
On day two you will be invited to book a conversation with Doug or his team if you want help applying the method. Everything taught across the two days is yours either way.

The Retained Advisor

It is a Tuesday morning and your phone buzzes

You recognize the caller ID. An assistant asks you to hold for the CEO. He comes on and thanks you for the research, and then you have a conversation about where the industry is going. You are holding your coffee. Your heart rate is normal, because he called you.

Your expertise did not change. What changed is who knows about it.
